Investing In Yourself
Part 4: You are the product of your environment
Spend enough time in any crowd and you are bound to pick up a trait, a habit and even a view. This, coupled with your own thoughts and habits, can help determine who you become and what kind of character you possess. If you surround yourself with confident, optimistic and ambitious people, youare bound to pick up on their confidence which will influence you to believe in the possibility of your own goals and follow them.
It is inevitable that the people you choose to spend most of your time with will eventually rub off on you. Who you choose to spend time with can determine the path that you end up taking and their influence will mark all aspects of your life.
One of the most fundamental needs as human beings is to be accepted, to belong. We are always looking to make connections, but what connections are worth the effort? We all desire to be prosperous and successful in some way, but how can this happen if we are surrounding ourselves with the wrong people? How do we even know if they are the wrong people?
Think about who you spend most of your time with. Now ask yourself, are these people helping you achieve your goals, or are they deterring you from progressing? Do these people have a positive influence on your life? Are they challenging and inspiring you to be a better you?
It's all about who you are around them and how they make you feel every time you encounter them. if you have this kind of company, you will drive eachother towards success.
However, there are two sides to every coin. As much as people are influencing you, we can't forget that we are also influencing the lives of others. Ask yourself, are you motivational, supportive, encouraging? Are you a positive influence on those around you?
To help you determine whether you're being the best person that you can be, we have put together a 'future you' template to guide you through how you want others to perceive you.
