What is it and why is it important?
Why is it that some people seem to shine in any sphere in which they choose to exert themselves, whereas there are others that just cannot manage to even glimmer no matter how obvious their talent is? Could what you believe about yourself impact your success and failure?
According to Carol Dweck (Stanford Psychologist), your mindset plays a significant role in determining your achievement and success. According to Dweck, there are two types of mindsets:
1. Fixed Mindset: The ability that it is fixed or ingrained
2. Growth Mindset: We can develop our ability through hard work and effort.
Why does this matter? Mindset plays a major role in how we cope with life's challenges. Your fixed beliefs about yourself can be holding you back from making that positive change, or achieving your goals. People witha growth mindset are able to see their qualities as things that are able to be developed through dedication and effort.
Having the ability to visualize wanting to achieve these goals is one of the most powerful things that you can do to help yourself achieve them. Before we believe in a goal, we must first have an idea of what this looks like. By being able to visualize our goals, we are visualizing the possibility of actually achieving it, which thus makes us more motivated and prepared to pursue it.
A perfect example of this is athletes. Many studies have shown that visualization has increased the athletic performance by improving motivation, coordination and concentration. It has also been shown to help in relaxation and reducing any fear and anxiety that they might be facing before an event.
To help you begin visualizing your goals, we have put together 5 steps on how to achieve visualization.
