Refresh your sweet home – spend time not money!

Guest Blog article by Susan Folwell from Heart & Soul Interiors (3 Min read | Beginners)

Are you ready to hit the refresh button on your home in 2018 but aren’t sure where to start? Christmas and New Year’s celebrations are over, and you still have a couple of days before returning to the daily routine, so now is the time! Roll up your sleeves and start the project you have been talking about for months. When something is not delivering in your home, you need to set it straight!

It’s Important

How we live affects our health and happiness, and I truly believe that a home set straight can help your well being and inspire you to be your best version. A renovation may be considered, but starting can be scary until you have a good understanding of what you need to reflect your own personality and style, no one else’s!

It’s time to step out of that comfort zone and shake things up.

The whole family can be involved during this phase. Get everyone to record what is missing in their zone of the home, what might be stopping the flow of daily activity. Then see what makes them feel great in a room when they enter, it might be the light, the colour, the smell or the serenity of the space. These are important aspects when embarking on a renovation, as they affect our everyday life.

It’s not always about how much you spend, but spending it wisely to achieve your dream home. So, decide on a budget that is appropriate to the value of your home.  Then consider these points:

  • Space and proportion
  • Balance and character
  • How you live
  • Comfort
  • Heating / cooling / environment
  • Storage

It might come down to the simple movement of furniture to get better flow, experiment with different configurations. Once at a girlfriends’ home (on her request) a group of us changed the entire configuration of our friends’ bedroom. We had such fun doing it.  Many hands made it light work (and a glass of wine). We then sprinkled rose petals from the kitchen to the bedroom so when her husband came home he knew something was up! We laughed and had so much fun, and hubby liked it too. So I guess what I am saying is, if you go down this path, invite your friends over to help and make it a fun activity. So get cracking in 2018 and let your spirit soar!
